As dogs age, their joints can stiffen and arthritis can set in. There is no cure for arthritis, but some of these suggestions may help to alleviate your dog's arthritic pain and make everyday functions a lot easier.
1. Keep your dog's weight at a normal level. Added weight will put more stress on bones, joints, and muscles.
2. Don't give aspirin to your dog unless advised to do so by your veterinarian - aspirin can be extremely toxic.
3. Make a set of steps or use footstools to help your dog reach his destination, such as his favorite sleeping chair. If the steps are wooden, tack carpeting to them to prevent him from
slipping.
4. To help a dog maneuver up the steps or climb to a favorite spot, make a carpet-covered ramp. For an outdoor ramp, use outdoor-grade plywood covered with outdoor carpeting to keep the footing secure.
